View Full Version : I got the mando anyway!

Hi Folks,

You may remember a couple of weeks back that I posted a thread about having spent my mando money on some expensive, though cool, shoes.

Well, it seems I got the mando anyway!

Hubby and I were going to go to Maple Street Guitars in Atlanta (whether I had money or not) over the Christmas break to get some books and DVDs that I wanted. I was also going to pine over my lost mando I knew they had in the shop (an Eastman 614 Golden Age). So we get there and I see a new mando hanging on the wall.... so new it hadn't even been posted on their site yet (I look at it every day so I know). It was a 505 Classic finish. And they only wanted $499 for it and that included a case! I played it and it spoke to me... more so than the $1100 Golden Age had before. Fortunately for me, I had much more facility on this mando than I had on my Ovation and hubby was impressed with my playing. (He's hard to impress)

After much coaxing and convincing, the mando went home with us and now lives happily in Miami with me.

I thought it might be fun to snap a picture of me with the mando and the shoes that almost cost me its purchase. Here it is:

I hope the link works. I have it hosted on photobucket.

I guess an oval is next? And, how much did those shoes smack down your sister? IIRC, that was the point, yes?

Drive that economy Lynn, we all need it.

OK all you hotshots out there, lets see some pics of you with a mando and some cool shoes.

I'm bowing out of this one.

The mandolin looks good with those shoes. This all makes perfect sense to me.

Yes, for sure an oval is next. But one of the caveats of the deal with hubby is that I can't talk about another mandolin for at least a year and a half. Since my money (that I actually had) was spent on the shoes, I had to credit card the mando.

And the sister thing was AWESOME. She was chewing herself royally. She was desperate to try them on but her fat foot was waaay too big for them. LOLOL! Victory is mine!

A mandolin will get you through times with no shoes, but shoes will not get you through times with no mandolin...or something like that.

I dunno. Can you eat the shoes? I'm pretty sure you can't eat the mandolin (at least that's what Mrs. Rachell said).

Nice mando! You got it from a great store as well. I've bought two guitars there and have been very pleased with the folks at Maple Street.

Nice shoes, nice mando ... now you need a custom strap that matches the shoes!

That's a great idea! I have an obnoxious yellow one on it now (you can slightly see it in the photo).

I'm going out tomorrow to find one! Thanks for the idea.

I love those shoes! I follow "if the shoe fits buy it in every color!" Have much fun with both of them :)

Congrats Lynn: nice shoes, nice mando, and nice ending to your dillemma. I was recently faced with a similar decision -- get a tattoo or get a mandolin -- and I chose both as well! (Although I suspect my tattoo, and perhaps my mandolin as well, were less expensive then your shoes. ;) )

If you ever list that mandolin on the cafe' for sale, you'll have to throw in the shoes!

Sorry, Lynn, but I'm not politically correct so here goes, "If you go parkin' lot pickin' in those shoes, you might give all mando players a bad reputation" (lol).

The only issue is whether or not the shoes cost more than the mando.

Enjoy!

Original price of shoes: more than mando. Sale price of shoes that I paid: less than mando. Mando: $499 (a great price from what I've seen that mando go for on other sites)

Lynn,

That picture deserves a place of honor on the "Women with Mandolins" Picture thread. My wife likes shoes that stand out too.

Caleb, your signature makes a lot more sense now!

Your reply cracked me up.
Back tot the earlier challenge of shoes with mando... my funkiest are a bright orange pair of Crocs with the leather uppers. Not too interesting.

Now where in the world would anyone wear bright orange Crocs?

Nevermind, I guess they'd clash enough with green hair to wear them anywhere.
