I've had no problem flying in the US with my mando, but what are people's experiences with flying internationally? I'm planning a trip to Dublin and a semestre study abroad next year, and want to start weighing my options--I could last a week without my mando, but not 4 months--what would people recommend as a cheap beater ($200 max)? Or, should I just take my Weber, confident that I'll be able to carry it with me the entire way?
Much thanks!

It should be no problem ay all. I am going to Germany the secound week in Augest and will bring my Prucha F. I travel internationl alot a see a lot of violins and mandolins make it on board with NO trouble at all.

Yeah, it's almost easier traveling internationally with an instrument than travelling on domestic flights...
Larger overhead bins, and customs is no hassle even with very valuable instruments....
I'd take an old Gibson A to Dublin to play and then sell it over there for a good price...

I have never had a problem flying with my mandolin ,carrying it onboard and stashing it in the overhead.

I have found that the larger planes have more overhead, the ones on international always had plenty of room for my mando.

If you're flying Aer Lingus between London and Dublin, you might have a bit of a problem. Those planes are smaller and AL isn't always the most accommodating about carry-on. My experience is limited, though, so others should chime in.

I have successfully flown on international flights to Panama with my mandolin as carryon. No problems at security, in the plane or at customs.

I have traveled the EU, both on the airlines and in private aircraft and have had no problem...
The only thing that has happened to me in London Gatwick was they wanted to look at it because they had never seen a mandolin that looked that way, being an F style..

Strangely enough, this happened to me in Memphis a couple weeks ago.
