Gibson Pick-guard

Has anybody come up with a way to "slow down" or stop the detioration process that happens to these celluloid guards??

Crystalization around the front pin,(reinforcement strip) into the neck,[a PreLoar A] was repaired by scraping away the weakened bits and replacing that section with ebonywood (Duco for adhesive). pickguard face at the tip a little wavy, but now firm attachment to the neck, by both pins.
