Sorry about the misspellings in the title. Too much Christmas punch, ha ha.
I just got the 504 and when I went to put a strap on it, I see that there is virtually no clearance between the nut and truss rod cover to slip a lace through in order to attach a should strap.
So I was wondering and this probably sounds stupid but is it acceptable to attach the strap by running the lace between the tuning pegs farther up the headstock? Does this create any problems?
Merry Christmas to all!

Take a look at this (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/search.php?query=strap+button&exactname=0&starteronly=0&forumchoice%5B%5D=45&prefixchoice%5B%5D=&childforums=1&titleonly=1&searchdate=0&beforeafter=after&do=process) thread. You can use either method.

Mike, thanks. I had seen that thread but glad you pointed it out to me again. Until I get a strap button installed, do you think it is okay to run the shoe lace between the lower four tuning pegs and around the headstock? Muy only other optiojn would be to find something like some thin ribbon and run under the strings just above the net. The shoelace just won't go through that narrow space.

I can't see any harm in doing it that way. Nope.

That's how I attach my strap. Works well.

Do it all the time, lets me switch quickly from the mando to the guitar when figuring out chord progressions with Sonbutcher. Also I like the balance better as the neck does not want to fall down.

That's odd, because I just got an md804 and I can slip a lace under the strings just above the nut. I guess they are all different. I don't think that tying a lace around the tuning keys will hurt it. I've done it before.

On my 504 I just slid the laces under the strings just above the truss rod cover plate, then slid them back and forth until they settled down to the nut. If that doesn't work you can try a thinner lace or a flat lace.
I tuck mine under the extension. If you have to see it in person, pm me and the next time you're in Rome I'll show you what I do. Enjoy that Eastman. Happy Holidays,
Paul

Thanks for all of the suggestions. What I ended up with for now was to slip a nice piece of wide soft ribbon under the strings by the nut and truss rod cover. Then, used the ribbon to tie off the strap. Works great!
PaulO, hope to meet you some day since we are close by. I live in Kennesaw but work for Cartersville PD.
