With support from the California Bluegrass Association the 48-Hour Bluegrass Jam is being held at the Doubletree Hotel, 3100 Camino Del Rio, Bakersfield, CA Friday and Saturday, January 9and 10, 2009. Bluegrass pickers from all over the state will be there picking til their fingers bleed. Saturday night a band scramble and open mic will take place in the hotel lounge. The hotel may still have rooms at the special Bluegrass rate of $89. Call 661-323-7111 for room reservations.
Just preceeding the jam, on Thursday night (Jan. 8) the East Bakersfield Kiwanis Club and the Sheriff's Activities League are hosting a Bluegrass dinner concert fundraiser featuring the Steep Canyon Rangers, a top rated eastern touring band. The sit down dinner will include two dinner entrees (Southwest chicken cordon bleu and tri-tip) and there will be drawings for door prizes including a Mexico cruise. Tickets for the dinner concert are $40, a great value and benefitting a great cause. Call Liz: 661-391-7771 at the Kern County Sheriff's Dept. for tickets.
