My old Gibson A- #13568 ( mfgd ?1913 or so) has an ebony bridge, on top of which rests 4 smaller separate ebony pieces (bridgelets), 1 piece for each doublet of strings. Some pieces are higer than others. The profiles look like this when inset and positioned on the groove in the bridgetop top;
A E_ higher pieces
__ D

Some pieces are slanted from wear and 'higher' at the soundhole end and lower at the tailpiece: does the higher side of the bridgelet match to the soundhole end or the tailpiece end ?

Does anyone know what is the correct positioning for these movable bridge pieces ? (and why the heck gibson would make them this way, as they will fly into orbit off the bridge if string tension is loosened...)

Thanks ...
