I am currently in the market for an F-4 mando and Don Paine of Pomeroy mandos looks to be making a great F-4. Anyone out there playing one? If so do you have any recording of you playing? I would love to hear one in action. I play a lot of classical and the F-4 just seems to be the sound I am after. I would greatly apreciate any info. or photos as well.

Hey Defying Gravity, I've picked up the Pomeroy F-4 that Steve Miklas had over at Acoustic Music Works (www.acousticmusicworks.com) in Pittsburgh. It was sweet and then some. Well thought out, exquisite execution. The tone was awesome (as an oval hole should be) all over the fretboard. I loved the neck profile, and found it even easier than my Rigel A Natural to play. Then, today...

...I went in and saw that the Pomeroy F-5 came in. This is an absolutely unbelievable instrument. Certainly bluegrassers will dig the traditional construction, but this mandolin can well handle any music thrown at it. My comment after a few minutes was "This is the next Stiver." Buy it now. I wish I could.

F-4, F-5, A-5 ... All Pomeroys are awesome. I was picking with Anthony Hannigan the other night in Dillon. He played Blackjack (#21) the whole time. It sounds so cool with those heavy Thomastik strings on it.
Dfyn, I've played several of Don's F-4's, they are all wonderful instruments. I would say the only difference is how far the sound is projected in front of you. Otherwise, they are the same as the F-5's. I've never heard a bad one.
