I'm surprised that no one seems to have commented yet on these performances last Saturday night. I was one of many in New England who lost electricity, phone, and internet for three days when hit by Thursday night's ice storm, but thanks to 6 D batteries I was able to enjoy a radio along with my woodstoves and candle lanterns. Maybe my sensitivities were heightened by the circumstances, but I thought that PHC pulled together an amazing assemblage of talent in CT, EM & YYM who seemed to truly collaborate as a trio, and in various pairings, to an extremely high level of musicianship. In short, it was great.

I would have enjoyed it if Garrison Keillor had exchanged a few words with Chris about his mandolin (was it his Loar?) but that's just the mando-geek in me.

Yep, listened to it on NPR, but on sunday. My power was out friday and saturday. I liked Thile doing Dead Leaves and Dirty Ground best.
He has become a semi-frequent guest on the show.

PHC consistently has excellent musical guests. I also enjoyed Dead Leaves, with Meyer had played bass along with Chris. Still, a wonder show.

I was a little distracted driving through sleet, slush, freezing rain, etc to a Christmas party when I hear this mandolin on PHC. My wife said "Who is that playing mandolin? I really did not know until Garrison announced Chris Thiele. It sure did not sound like a typical recording of Chris playing his Dude, I thought. Is that what a Loar sounds like with Chris's sound reinforcement rig on it? I'll guess at the Loar.

Let's not forget that Andy Stein, formerly of Commander Cody, was also on that PHC program playing the violin (fiddle?). Click http://www.andysteinmusic.com/ to see his bio.

MP3 clips are up on the NPR website, now, for those that were doing other things during local broadcast time.

T h i l e

I was sick with a case of the flu yesterday when I wrote this and I knew something was not right.

Let's pay the man proper respect here, after all he did play on PHC.
