Have you removed ".txt" from the desktop icon before opening?

Curt,
What has been working for me is that i download the individual tab edit files to my desktop, then i created a new folder to put them in. Since you have downloaded the tab edit program, i assume you can see it on your desktop or in the applications programs, simply open it up by double clicking the icon. This should bring up an empty tab edit viewer page with notation lines and bars.
Then go to file and open new, this should allow you to choose either desktop
or tab edit in applications, then choose the tab edit file you want to view and it should appear.
I have also encountered the maze of folders that appear when you download the tab edit files, just keep opening and you will eventually arrive at the individual tune files, these are the ones you want. You should be able to save them as i mentioned before to the desktop, then open as a new file when you are in the tab edit viewer program.
hope this helps - this does work on a Mac

There is also a Mac version, but you have to buy it.

It sounds like you might have the pc viewer. I think there is a free mac viewer. This is one program I don't mind paying for, however, as I use it extensively as a practice tool.
