Gig bag

Just a tip.

I have been searching for some time for a decent gig bag for my Fylde Octavius Octave Mandola.

Finally something that is good quality and fits !

A Tribal Planet half size classical guitar bag.

I got it from The Musicroom here in the UK.

Apart, possibly, from Gael's last line I think the posting is legitimate in that it is helpful about one of the bugbears of over-sized mando luggers, the problem of locating cases and bags that fit. My quality of mandolife would be enhanced by, for instance, knowing if there is a commercially available case or bag out there that will fit my Gibson H1 mandola, as it remains housebound until the time I find one. This forum is my only hope as the average retailer is clueless about such specific needs.

Kevin, we are all in agreement, here. This is indeed important knowledge to share, but we do need to keep individual transactions in the Classifieds. We thank the original poster for bringing this tip to the Cafe community. These bags are buggers to fit and find; this is most helpful!

The gig bag I use for festivals is a Tribal Planet. It is very well made and designed. Good protection for the mando, comfortable to wear on back or hand carry and has alot of cool accessory pockets, even a water bottle pocket...good looking to boot but it didn't come cheap...I love it. :grin:

When I had an Octavious I found a gig bag from a Larrivee parlor guitar and it worked wonderfully.

I use a Bell & Head Cassandra Elk for one of my mandolas and a Rock Bag for the other. They both work fine.

Still recommend the Gold Tone padded gig bag for their "banjola" (large mando body with a 5-string banjo neck). When I'm not taking my banjola out I often use the gig bag for another of my large mandolin-family instruments.

I've been looking at a Fylde Octavius Bouzouki. What's your's sound and play like? I'm leery of the width at the nut, isn't 1 1/2" ?

There's one on eBay just now and the seller says that it's "1 15/32" wide.

As I remember about mine, the neck felt very guitar-like, but was smaller over all
than my guitars, one of which is 1 3/4 wide and another is smaller.

I was coming to the CBOM world from guitar, so the change was comfortable, but
for someone coming from mandolins or other mando family instruments, it may be
different.
