Just got burned by a company over a set of strings...
Looking for a new source. Any suggestions?

I usually buy mine from a local store, even if I have to have them special order. No problem getting burned there. I have also dealt mailorder with Dietz Music in Omaha, which Cafe's own "Mandohack" is affiliated with. Nice, friendly, dependable service and great prices.

I get mine off Ebay. I buy in bulk, 10 sets at a time. They last about a year......

Thanks Steve in Tampa ...I just put in an order; very good prices (they have a web discount).

I get them from my local Heart of Texas Music store to support the Bricks and Mortar. Two sets for the price of one, not too bad either. In Exchange he lets me come in a play all the cool guitars and mandolins he paid for to keep in stock.

sonnyjammer,

Are Ray and Tommy Hennig still there? I used to buy a lot of stuff from them when I lived in Texas.

I always get my J74s from fqms.com. $3.99 each. Sometimes they have them advertised as a sell item and even when they don't I just ask the person on the phone if they are still 3.99 each and they always say yes.

I order some from juststrings.com. Fast service. Sometimes it seems like they come the next day.

I also have an eBay source for low prices on EXP74s. I bought a bunch and haven't gotten thru them as yet.

Monroe's Music and Jewelry. Been going there all my life. Great service and discounts to long time patrons like me make it well worth the while. Tony will get me anything that I need.

My local store has D'addario J74's for about $6.00. I also order from Musician's Friend if I have other items to order. They carry D'addario, Ernie Ball, Martin, Elixir, Gibson, Fender and John Pearse.

local store (Georges Music II) J74's for 3 for $12.99. Too bad they don't have mandolins (excluding Fenders, etc.)

Has anyone seen a cheaper price than FQMS's $3.99 for J74's?

I only use Thomastik-Infield flatwounds and get them right here from Plucked Strings. A portion of the sale goes to help the kids scholarship fund and they have the cheapest and best service on TI's.

I always buy mine from my local store (Amazing Grace), because I really like the idea of my local store (Amazing Grace) staying in business..... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

I always buy my strings from Cartwrights Music for the same reason Elen B. frequents Amazing Grace. Support your local music store...who knows you might want to play something they have some day.

I like webstrings.com (http://www.webstrings.com) a lot.

I always buy my strings from Cartwright's Music for a number of reasons. One, I won't buy something I can't touch first. Two, don't support your local music store, you won't have one. Ken keeps 40 or so mandolins in stock just for me to stop by and play. I even bought a 1918 Gibson Mandocello from him last month. Strings too. Three, I've never had a web site stop work to pick a few tunes with me, and they never tell me jokes, even bad ones. Four, I may be a poor school bus driver, but I ain't cheap.
