I played one for a bit and listened to one being played. It was ok. Nothing special to my ear. For the price, if I had to pick an Eastman, I'd go for a regular Eastman-F. For the look, if you like it, it might be ok?
I'll admit it looks better in person and it grows on you a bit. But it is one strange looking puppy. Almost like the builder carved it out of a block of wood and didnt have the time to round off the edges. Thread with pics for those wondering.

I agree with Scot. It was an ok mandolin, but nothing that remarkable to my ear. I didn't find it very comfortable to play. I felt like I had to work to get the tone I was looking for out of it (which of course is very subjective). The instrument didn't breathe, didn't vibrate the way I want a mandolin to. For $3K, there are a lot of other opportunities. However, if you want something that looks like a Giacomel, it's there.

For some reason the Giacomel is more aesthetically pleasing to me than the Eastman Giacomel.
I love the colors, the lines and for sure would like the sound better.
Wouldn't spend $3,000 on an Eastman either. I've owned three Eastmans. One 604 sounded exceptionally good.

I just won't feel complete until I can play one of these;and,I bet there are a large batch of pickers who feel likewise.
They will probly get "tried out" so much that they open up and really HONK by the time I get to play one. I like the look.
Hope they sell well enough to continue being built.
Anyone know if Eastman uses hide-glue for mandolin construction?
Well, same question regarding their violins (?)
