View Full Version : Question About restoring a 1924 Gibson F4
I have a 1924 (Loar Period) Gibson F4, Serial Number: 79268, and I'm restoring it. My question is, On the Peg head where is says "The Gibson" Is the i in Gibson supposed to be dotted on mine? I have looked and looked at 1924 Gibson F4s and some have the i dotted and some don't.
Some have the dot incorporated into the T on The. here's a '24 from the archive...

The ones I've seen are like the picture shown by Hans from the Archive.. My 1917 A-3 has the dot for the "I" at the foot of the "T" as in the picture above.
Likewise, my 1923 TB-4 Gibson Tenor shown here, has the same inlay with the Fleur de Lis. It must have been fairly standard to include the dot in the "T".

There were two patterns. The one shown below was used on most '24's. Look in the archive to see which one was used on 79xxx F4's. Most 79xxx F5's had the other pattern for some reason
Yours should have the floating dot pattern
