OOps, sorry for that questions.., and for my poor english (french #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ).
I play 5 string banjo and decide to change a little by learning mandolin.
I bought in BORDEAUX (french town...) #the only mandolin ...
It's a Fender FM-52 E, and the neck seems to be very narrow 1.12 '' at nut , action is very low but difficult to produce clean sounds !!!
Is that a standard dimension for the neck or it's just because it's a beginner instrument ?
Many thanks.

Patrick.

Patrick, that's about 1-1/8" right? If so, it's pretty standard. #i read a review where a guy said he removed the electronics and that made it sound better. #But all in all, on a very inexpensive mando, I think the sound may suffer. #If it's playable, learn the heck out of it, then trade up, if you decide to stick with the banjo, well, you're not out many euros.

If by saying that it's difficult to produce clean sounds, you mean it buzzes, raise the action a bit, those thumbscrews on the bridge will raise the action. #Just loosen the strings first.

Also, some come with wider necks, but may cost more, MidMo has an option for a wider neck you can find more info Here. (http://www.midmomandolin.com/products.php) #Good luck on your new adventure.
