I'm thinking about buying a mandolin from Mandolin World Headquarters. Anyone out there who has done business with him please chime in - how was it?
(Unfortunately I have to do it by mail... hence the need for input from others.)

Charles Johnson is a "class act." He will provide you with a quality instrument (whatever type) at a fair price. He doesn't deal in junk. I bought a Flatiron Festival F from Charles. That mandolin is a wonderful instrument. I bought it from him over the web. The mandolin was professionally packaged for shipment. It arrived with a new set of J74's on it and another set in the case. He gave me top notch service. I would recommend Charles to anyone! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Charles Johnson is "straight-up"! - I have bought, traded and sold several instruments with/from him in the past 4-5 years. As posted above, he knows instruments and if he say's "like new.., "excellent",( or he WILL mention "a few dings"..), you will find the delivered instrument "as advertised" - I just bought a Takemine F/T from him... ; it's in better condition than I expected ; and as Charles listed it. Very happy camper. AND I have NO financial interest!!) - Let us know how it goes. Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Moose you brought a takemine! is that a real guitar? Charles is great to do buisness with. My only problem is I can't afford everthing on his site I want. He's a class act and will not stear you in to somthing that's not right for you just for a sale. Like Moose I have no financial intersest an just a very happy customer. Now back to playing the Bulldog. Yes I got it from Charles. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I bought one of Moose's trade-ins from Charles. I called him and asked if I could hear a couple different ones played over the phone--he was most accomodating. In fact, I wound up getting a mandolin that was quite a bit cheaper than my original choice because it sounded so good over the phone--even Charles said "that's a nice mandolin" after playing it. Highly recommended

What are you thinking of buying? I was looking at his stuff this morning. He's got some good ones. I'm not in the market for a new one, just curious. I like the KM-1500 and the Dave Nichols that he has.

Hey Moose...

I have a Take F-370 SS in Koa wood. Sound
is unreal, looks are 1st class. As was stated,
apparently Charles knows quality when he sees/hears
it. : )

I can add another vote in support of Charles Johnson. I bought (or rather bartered) for the Rattlesnake I now have from him and absolutely love it. Great mandolin at an appropriate price.

Bear in mind that Charles is probably reading all of this and his head is growing all the while - ha. Good guy with great stuff is my take on the man.

Charles is top drawer, he'll treat you right. I've bought 1 from him, and another time he talked me out of buying one because he didn't think it'd be the right one for me http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I think Charles is an awful person. Why, because he brings things to the guitar show that I want to buy and can't afford! He even had the nerve to suggest me putting a deposit on something that he would hold till I completed the payments! Like everyone else here has said, Charles is a great guy. I think he's a decent mandolin player although he'll tell you that he doesn't know bluegrass. He was very fair with my deal.

Charles is a great guy. Bought my current mando from him and when it comes time for another, I will look him up first. I was struck by his honest opinion as to the instrument I bought.
