View Full Version : Mandolin Cafe Picking and Tasting Session?
If you've seen the threads on the happenings at 'Gary's Pickin session' you can't help but be jealous. Wouldn't it be great if there was a Mandolin Cafe get together like that? Invite builders, small and large, to a get together of dedicated mando fanatics? Maybe do some seminars and clinics?
I've traveled long distances for similar events for other hobbies, why not mandolin playing? I usually think of free airline flights as a reward for airline flying to be a miserable perk but something like this would be worthwhile.

There used to be one and it was affliated with the Cafe'. It was called "Mandofest." I never went and I don't know what happened to it. I am sure someone more knowledgeable will fill in the blank. Here's a link to the last one.

I think it was just an awful lot of work for Scott and the store that hosted it and they got burnt out. I still have the "COPY" version of a mandofest poster posted in my cubicle at work.

one of my lottery fantasies is to fund mandofest so they wouldnt have to worry about that pesky cash flow issue or general stress of financial uncertainty, perhaps we could buy tickets in advance to fund it , all accounts are that it was extremley well done. maybe we could set up a fund and just for the price of a cup of coffee a day it could be pre -funded

Mandofest was a blast when I attended. It was small and informal. The best part was having pizza with Scott, Ted, some guy named Reischman, and 'the Drew,' in downtown Lawrence. Now if somebody wants to fund something similar, I'm sure there are a few of us that would make the trip. Dan
