I just want to say how great Alex R. and Collings as a whole have been to me.
I have an early MT2 that had some issues with the finish on the neck so this past October I sent it back to Collings to have them re-finish just the neck. This past Wednesday Alex called me up and said my mandolin was done and that he'd ship the mandolin 2nd day air so I'd have it for a show this Saturday. I got the mandolin on Friday and the repair looks perfect, the finish on the back of the neck matches the rest of the mandolin exactly. It also looked like they put a brand new fretboard and frets on the mandolin but I called Alex and he said they just cleaned up the fretboard and re-crowned the frets. Whatever they did it plays like it's brand new and sounds like it's been played for 10 years. There was also a ding on the top that they must have fixed because it's gone!?!? Oh yeah, they said it was all covered under warranty! Pretty cool huh? The total time I was without my instrument I guess was about 3-4 weeks... that isn't bad considering what they had to do.

The folks at Collings are simply the best when it comes to standing behind what they sell. I have been a long time Collings guitar lover/owner, and they once took on a strange top issue on a guitar that I was not even the original owner (as in I had no warranty rights.) They went way above and beyond to get the repair right, and they charged me zero! They like loyalty, and in turn my loyalty has continued to grow! (I am in no way saying Collings fixes any thing on any guitar at any time-just sharing my personal experience.)

Collings' exceptional instruments are only matched by their exceptional service. I just contacted Alex at Collings about buying an endpin to convert into a matching strap button. He is putting one in the mail to me, gratis. You couldn't ask for better service.

I was in Austin a few years ago, and dropped into their new shop. I'd had some problems with the Schallers on my MF5 and without any hesitation at all, Bill gave me some new tuners to replace the old ones. Gotta love it. My mandos been played a lot and we sat around comparing to new ones, varnished ones etc. They seemed happy to check out their mandos after they'd been in the field so to speak. I came away with a renewed respect for the company, this mando has brought nothing but satisfaction in all aspects.

Yeah Mike, they seemed like they were excited to have mine (#82, 2001) back in the shop to see how it had aged.

That's great service by anyone's notion & it's alway nice when folk show their appreciation by telling others about it. It also says quite a lot about the person themselves - well done,
Saska
