I just want to say how great Alex R. and Collings as a whole have been to me.
I have an early MT2 that had some issues with the finish on the neck so this past October I sent it back to Collings to have them re-finish just the neck. This past Wednesday Alex called me up and said my mandolin was done and that he'd ship the mandolin 2nd day air so I'd have it for a show this Saturday. I got the mandolin on Friday and the repair looks perfect, the finish on the back of the neck matches the rest of the mandolin exactly. It also looked like they put a brand new fretboard and frets on the mandolin but I called Alex and he said they just cleaned up the fretboard and re-crowned the frets. Whatever they did it plays like it's brand new and sounds like it's been played for 10 years. There was also a ding on the top that they must have fixed because it's gone!?!? Oh yeah, they said it was all covered under warranty! Pretty cool huh? The total time I was without my instrument I guess was about 3-4 weeks... that isn't bad considering what they had to do.
