Just shuffling through my iPod and came across the song So Many People on the Honky Tonkin's What I Do Best CD and he just kills it! Great fills and a small break with terrific vocals. I missed the chance to go see him and Travis Tritt in Charlottesville. By the time I got to the website for tickets they were all gone! :disbelief: :crying:

We used to refer to him as "Eddie Munster", but hell, yes, he is good. Always has been. I first heard him with Lester Flatt when Eddie, er, I mean Marty was thirteen, tearin' it up on the mandolin!

how would you describe what he does between 5:08-5:5:32

in other words, how would i emulate it?;)

Just picked up a Marty album of Duets with others- ranging from Lester Flatt days to present. I believe it's called Compadres (I'm at work and don't have album here). It's really good. I've always been a big fan.

Wow.... he's about as clean as Thilie (or vice-versa) in that mandolin instrumental solo!

Very impressive! Thanks for sharing. (Now I'll go sell MY mandolin since I'll never be able to do that!) :disbelief:

Seems like he is just noodling around till 5:46. Ahhh what sublime noodling.

Prior to moving to Montana I worked at the Old Town School of Folk Music, and was lucky enough to both meet and see Marty play...Fantastic picker and nice guy...Actually fantastic is an understatement everything the guy played was inspiring...One of the greats.

I found a thing with him and the Flecktones doing Sex in a Pan at some festival.

Never studied much on Marty Stuart, but he just became my new favorite mandolinist. His style is something else! WOW

Marty Stuart is one of the few guys in Nashville that really wants to see everyone succeed. I have been lucky enough, though collecting bluegrass memorabilia, to make his acquaintances. He really is one of those rare NO EGO guys who wants to help people. A great guy and a personable friend.

He has a new TV show on RFD TV. Last Saturday (11/8) he had Earl Scruggs on. You could see the love just radiate off of Marty. They played some electric and a some acoustic, including a bunch of mandolin. Man, is his mandolin distressed. Lots of words engraved on the top.
