For those of you who have heard the CD, What did you think of it?

I didn't hear the whole thing, but a fair amount of it. From what I heard, I was a little disappointed with the NC side of it. They just sound like a backing band (a good one, but still just backing). It didn't seem like they had a chance to shine on any of the cuts. I like Glen though and the songs are pretty good. It just wasn't was I expected/hoped for

well when getting the cd, you have to remember that it is not a nickel creek cd. im still very impressed with the music, and the vocals, but if you buy the cd expecting another creek album, than you could be dissapointed. i would reccommend it though. i liked it, anyways http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I like the CD a lot, but I was bummed that Glenn did all the lead vocals. He has a cool voice and all, but I wanted to hear Chris, Sean, and Sara do more than just harmonize!
Other than that, it's a really good CD. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Being a Toad fan myself, I can see where Nickel Creek is coming from as fans of Toad. I think thats why they're calling it the Mutual Admiration Society. I'm sure Nickel Creek admires Glen's songwriting and lead vocal abilities, just as Glen admires Chris, Sean and Sara's instrumental abilities. Being that this is only one CD, they don't really have space to explore all the lead vocal possibilities. Since Glenn isn't going to whip out solos like Sean anytime soon, I'm sure he gladly took the lead vocal "part", and left the instrumental and harmony "parts" to Nickel Creek.

Prolly not a coincidence at all, maddawg.
Like banjo said, I was disappointed to hear NC as just a backup band. I only listened to it once, however. Maybe should give it another listen.

Hmmmm ... other than Mandofiddle, I'm guessing that most the replies here are from folks that haven't listened to much Toad? Or at least aren't really fans of that group.
Me? I'm happy to hear than Glen has the lead vocal role. Imagine not hearing Chris, Sean or Sara's voice for years! Not to mention Glen's rich lyrics, and his great sense of arrangement.
Is he the primary songwriter as well, or is the album a group collaboration?
Mind you, I don't think it's a character flaw to not a be a Toad fan. I am surely just biased toward wanting more of Glen's influence, being a long time Toad fan. To the NC fans who may have missed Toad's active years, Glen might seem like someone's who's getting in the way ... but only at first, I'm certain of that. I bet there will be a whole lot of new Toad fans by the end of this summer. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I've been a long time fan of Toad as well, and it's really cool to have Nickel Creek and Glen Phillips on the same album! The ONLY complaint I have of the album is the version of Trouble. Nobody else should sing that song except Sara Watkins. And why did they slow down the song's tempo?!? Not good. Otherwise - Awesome album
