I picked up "Go Long Mule" a couple of weeks ago.
Awesome. I am not a big fan of three fingered banjo, but clawhammer is a blast. He clogs real good too!

Uncle Dave Macon's advice about show business is priceless -- and I must paraphrase, because I can't remember the exact quote -- "if you make people laugh, make 'em cry, and make 'em want to dance,,,then you've done a good show!"

"I miss my hog and hominy, my pumpkin and red gravy,
My appetite is fading, so settle Uncle Davy"
You can't beat Uncle Dave Macon.
Bear Family Records just released Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy - Uncle Dave Macon - The Complete Recordings.
A tad expensive, but a dream for fans:

I bought the monster Carter Family Bear Family box. 12 CDs including all of their formal recordings plus a huge, gorgeous book with loads of color and B&W photos plus all of the lyrics.
I figured it was a family heirloom investement--if the CDs last that long.
The Uncle Dave set is tempting, but although I'm a fan, I'm not quite enough of a scholar for that much Macon.
The Bill Monroe and Stanley Brothers sets are tempting, though.

A few years ago there was a documentary about Macon on PBS that a friend loaned me on tape. I've never seen it for sale, but it was full of anecdotes from his son and fellow musicians. He is also on film in "Grand Old Opry" (the movie), available on VHS from Old Homestead records. Includes Roy Acuff and the Weaver Brothers and Elviry (not for the faint of heart, but I think it's a riot).
