View Full Version : 4th finger on 4th fret
Sometimes I use my 4th finger on the fourth fret and pinkey on the 5th. Is this really odd? I shift the position to reach higher frets.. Sometimes I can play a lot faster this way.
I know it's wrong, but at times it feels more natural than using the second finger.
Is it odd? Personally yes...LOL, but playing is such an individual thing it's hard to criticize folks. Sometimes I'll use my pinky on the 6th fret. In rare cases I might use my ring finger on the 4th fret, especially if the preceding note is on the 3rd fret and on a different string.
Whatever gets the job done, and whatever makes you happy!

Hang twelve good buddy! :))
Most aliens, and/or human mutations (more than likely from from WV!) would normally use their 4th finger for the 7/8th frets, and use the extra 5th finger on the 9th and 10th frets. Very effective for playing unison doublestops with no open strings, I must say:
Well, to WindinBoy's credit, he does show you his own finger-numbering system. He may have something interesting to say about whether he looks at the frets when he plays, though.
That's the way I look at it. I suffered some nerve damage to my left arm/hand and this may be why I have adapted to some degree, but I do like using my ring finger on the fourth fret, and find myself doing it without thinking much about it. If it works great, if not adapt. Seems to be true of much in life.
Well, at least you dont have to worry about proper thumb position...
