My prettier half thought that maybe, just maybe, a few folks here might be interested in listening to an interview she's doing with Edgar Meyer & Chris Thile on her show tomorrow morning (10-24) at 11:00AM EST. ;) Here are the details from her station's press release ...
==================
Hang onto your hats. The two most prestigious, virtuoso performers of our time, Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer, will join Carol Beaugard this Friday, (10/24) at 11:00 am (ET), on “Lonesome Pine RFD” on 89.1, WFDU-FM (streamed live on www.wfdu.fm). Edgar and Chris are currently touring the country to promote their first recording collaboration on Nonesuch Records.
Carol's a huge Thile fan so she'll be sure to talk about his amazing career in depth in addition to his current work with Meyer. Expect lots of music early in the show (beginning at 9:00 am - 12 noon ET) and in the 11:00 hour from the duo, plus Nickel Creek, the Punch Brothers and everything Thile.
Edgar and Chris will join Carol to discuss their recording, which features 12 original compositions by the duo, as well as the 50-minute DVD featuring performances, rehearsals, and behind-the-scenes conversations with the two musicians, which is included with the deluxe edition of the album. The interview will be recorded for later broadcast on ‘Open Mic’ on WAMU’s ‘Bluegrass Country’.
Meyer and Thile began playing together eight years ago, and began performing live as a duo in 2003. Thile calls Meyer his “hero,” and goes on to say, “Edgar is one of the biggest influences on my musical life and now I’m in a duo with him and writing songs with him. This was my dream. I always wondered what it would be like to be playing music this hard.”
The respect and admiration is mutual. Meyer says, “Chris is unique. I can’t think of another musician with his combination of abilities. When Chris came on the scene and we actually realized what he was doing and what he was capable of and what he would be doing, it was a wonderful feeling that the next generation was going to take things well beyond what we had imagined.”
He continues, “You know, it’s not obvious to everybody, but mandolin and bass can be an excellent instrumentation. I like the way they interact dynamically and the way they contrast each other and don’t get in each other’s space.”
New York fans will have the chance to see Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer in concert in New York City on Wed. evening, October 29th at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium (881 Seventh Avenue). For more visit http://www.myspace.com/edgarmeyerandchristhile.
Since 1985, Carol Beaugard has hosted “Lonesome Pine RFD” heard every Thursday morning from 6:00 – 9:00 am and every Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon (ET) on 89.1, WFDU-FM and streamed live on www.wfdu.fm.
