http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Wish I was. I've gone the last 3 years, and had to put it on the credit card each time. Can't afford to do that again this year... Pick a few for me http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

JD,
nope, sorry but I live in grand rapids, mi. I did spend one year of school in colorado, but it was in colorado springs. I've just driven out for the festival the last few years.

well you should still come anyway. we'll be backstage in the non-vehicle on site camping. look for a big white pop up tent with lots of pbr cans strewn about. come pick a few.

I'll do my best, still kinda new to the mando. BTW, how did you get backstage camping? And if I do want to stop by, how would I get backstage?

JD, I will be there again this year (all three days). Maybe I will be brave enough to come by and pick-n-learn more? I'm hoping to spend a little time with Rich Z ... he's gonna give me some lessons this year.
I'm still a gumby.
I'm gonna drive my own car everyday this time, so I don't feel obligated to leave when my buddies do ... can't get any picking time in that way. I'll be staying about 20 min from the fest.
Will it be any problem getting to your camping spot if you are backstage?

Oh ... forgot to mention. I have an extra ticket (three day) for sale ... my wife is not going to go. She heard too many stories about how hot it was last year.
3 days of RockyGrass, $105 bucks!

hey to all you non-backstage camper folks-
i believe you can get a "pickin pass" at the main festival/ticket tent that will give you access to any campground if you have an instrument in tow. you may want to check with planet bluegrass on that one.
hope to see you all there, and if the last week has been any indicator, it's gonna be HOT.

From what I was told, it's not too hard to sneak into the campground after the shows if you just want to jam. You didn't hear it from me though http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hey JD, are you out near Lyons? how's the weather been there? it looks like it's supposed to rain all weekend long

mz-
"rain" is a relative term here in colorado. while some folks are getting three inches of rain and softball sized hail, some folks are dryin up by the minute. we're supposed to get big storms over the next couple days. the last time i told someone "it never rains for long here" was three or four years ago when it rained for three days straight (the year of the raft and mud...anyone remember that rockygrass?).

anyhoo, i'm out of the weather prediction game, so bring raingear, winter hat, gloves, socks, long underwear, swim trunks, sunscreen, bug spray, umbrellas, sandals, boots, emergency blankets, and lots of water. remember, if you don't like the weather in colorado, just wait ten minutes.

I can hardly wait. Last year was a blast. The lineup looks fantastic this year as well. I will be driving up each day from Denver area but I may try to spend some time in the camp area.

Yo JD, I posted a question about the pickin pass on planetbluegrass.com forum. I'll post the scoop when I get a reply. Hope I can get back there to pick with you guys.

I called planet bluegrass yesterday. a lady told me that you can get the pickin' pass at the will call/wristband checkpoint place. She wasn't sure but said it might cost $5 or something like that. Curious to know if that gets you into the backstage area where all the performers pick too? I kind of snuck in last year (only for about 10 min. and watched Thile playing some nice fiddle stuff (on a fiddle no less!)
