View Full Version : "Mary did you know"
Hello everyone I am new here as you can see by the fact that this is my first post. I am relativley new to the mandolin having never played an instrument before; well that is false I have played the fiddle but I was bad. Anyways a buddy had me join a praise band at our church and since I owned a mandolin thats what I began playing. I love it now but I don't have the ear yet to pick out tunes yet. Firstly does anyone have tabs not chords for "Mary did you Know" and secondly does anybody know of a praise book with mandolin tabs in it. I saw one a year ago now I am kicking myself for not purchasing it when I had the chance. Thank you all who read this post and I look forward to participating in this forum.

Here's a guitar tab (http://www.cowboylyrics.com/tabs/mattea-kathy/mary-did-you-know-3983.html) that looks okay. I didn't play it or check the whole thing. Didn't find a mandolin tab, but the chords would be the same. Maybe our gospel mando guy will have it somewhere.

Here's the mandolin chords (http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.ultimate-guitar.com/print.php?what=tab&id=448042&1944-06-06=always&tuning=GDAE&transpose=-5) - some of the chords can be voiced in other ways. Check here (http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/chords/ch.pl) for more chords.

Hey Trent, if you find any good material please share it with the rest of us, elderly has a praise & worship book but it doesn't say that it has tab.
Thanks,
Kent

As people familiar with my posts here know, I'm pro-tab and I'm usually arguing the other side of the tab v. notation issue, but in this case, I have to say that if you're going to do "praise and worship" music, which I've done most Sundays now for about 30 years, you're eventually going to have to make the transition to standard notation. There just isn't much tab out there and I could be wrong, but I doubt there ever will be.

Thank you all for your responses, its nice to know that there are others out there doing the same thing as myself. I will eventually get the hang of plucking out the tune but until that time I will continually search for tabs to my songs.

Hi Trent - I'd like to recommend "Flatpickin' The Gospels for Mandolin" by Steve Kaufman. It's loading with old favorite hymns. Which is always a great place to start. It gives guitar AND mandolin tabs to each song. You will always do well in any church with the old favorites..people STILL love them. You will like it because it's perfect for the beginner all the way up. Also since Christmas is around the corner, I'd like to recommend to you Roland White's "Mandolin Christmas". It comes with all your Christmas favorites, also perfect for beginners all the way up..AND comes with 2 CD's so you can play along with Roland and get the "feel" of the songs...I hope this helps...
ENJOY....
