well I posted a classified ad offering a mandolin for sale in the classified section right.... Then I see where you can post asking questions about A mandolin you know VERY LITTLE about in this forum room, which is what it is for, correct ? and I get my post flagged? it's not like I am doing anything incorrectly am I ? I am asking for info on this Mandolin so I can better judge the price to sell it for , I guess some people must either be trying to not let other people know it is for sale so they can get it themselves or the forum monitors need to better label what your forum rooms are for , Geeze......

Kentucky Dawg,
Please review the Posting Guidelines (http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/faq.php).
Specifically...
Ebay, online auctions, Cafe Classifieds: while discussing online auctions or the classifieds is permitted, posting personal transactions for self-promotion is prohibited. Fraudulent transactions are legitimate subject for discussion, but listing Seller's account names or numbers are against board guidelines.
We take this to mean, if you post an ad in the Classifieds you don't start a thread about the same instrument. It is reasonable for people to interpret that as self-promoting.

I didn't see your post, but if at any point you even mentioned that it was for sale, you probaably went over the line. If you just said "I have XXX - anybody know about them? - what are they worth?," then you would have been safe. The classifieds are a good place to market a mandolin... The potential buyers here are pretty savvy about what things are, and what they're worth.

...or maybe not. I just read JEStanek's post.

We've already had this conversation privately, Greg. You can not post a Classifieds Ad and then stir up a conversation about it here on the discussion board. Whether intentional or not, it unfairly jims up interest in the sale. If this were allowed, the Message Board would be overrun with blatant, self-generated, self-serving promotion, not "questions about A mandolin you know VERY LITTLE about." The solution is simple, remove the ad, and you can have conversation about the instrument.
You might also refer to the guidelines the section about using the forum to whine about the rules.
