What direction do you want to go? I take from Mark Cole in Adams County. I can provide his info if this is close to you.

Well everyone I live about 32 mile north of columbus in delware county. I would like to learn bluegrass but I will also learn anything someone is willing to teach(jazz, blues, classical, oldtime, ect...) I would also like to learn to read music. I can read TAB and I play by ear but that is about it.

Listen to Scotti's clips in the MP3 section. If he can teach as well as he can pick $30 an hour's a bargain http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

..I dabble in all that Sir..except for classical....I dont read music but I can read tab. Most everyhting Ive learned had been from ear and self taught...Ive been playing 27 years....so I may have a lick or two up my sleeve...Thanks for the kudoz Brad..I really appreciate it. Im in the process now of lining up the players and material for a solo project that Im gonna start in Nov.

Well, I live in the NW suburbs of Columbus, and to fill in Scotti's one gap, I play classical. I've been playing classical mandolin for only 4-5 years or so, but I do play professionally and have been playing various plucked strings with some degree of seriousness for over 20 years (not counting the early years of goofing off). As I've mentioned in past correspondence, sirmando, I don't really have time to offer formal lessons, but I am happy to make my small library of old, PD classical methods available for copy; this will certainly help in the reading department. I am also keen to play with others and offer advice wherever you'd welcome it.

Last time I was in Columbus I stumbled upon a little place on High Street called The Bluegrass Music Shop. Not being from the area, I've only been there once. Seemed like a lot of nice folks and while I don't know if they have instructors for private lessons, I did find that they have open jams every Saturday morning. It might be a good place to find other musicians in your area.

Maybe they can help you out! Wish I had more info to give, but I hope that helps.

It is a fine place to hang, but I suspect you might be disappointed in the instruments kept in stock, Scotti. They have reams of good recordings for sale and good folks man the shop. However, their instruments tend to favor entry level, and intriguing stock is occasional at best.

Well, I'm in Cleveland about two hours from you...but if you have any interest in a 2-3 hour once in a while workshop type lesson, let me know. #I teach mostly blues and jazz, but can help with the other stuff on your list particularly bluegrass and learning to read as well as some chord theory.
