I`m in the Charlotte area, not exactly a hot bed for bluegrass. The surrounding areas are great though.

I am the bald and rather portly banjo player. I play mandolin with a local group mainly to be able to play with my father (he plays banjo in the other group). Greg is the real mandolin player. I've learned a lot of great stuff from him.

I'm in Raleigh.
There's a bluegrass jam every Thursday (Tues. for beginners) out in Wendell. Great fun.

Charlotte N.C. here, actually just recently drug kicking and fighting into the city limits by the greedy city. When I moved here 15 odd years ago it was open farmland all around. Now it's wall to wall housing developments.

F5Loar, that sounds like a great idea. Let us know when you would like to do it. Any of you headed to Sparta for the fiddler's convention this weekend? I should be there. I'm up in Yadkin County, just above Union Grove.

Thanks,

Nothing until September.

We are doing the General Store again in October.

I may have worked up the nerve to play my mando on a tune or 2.

I have a Rigel G110 and the factory peizo pickup sounds great thru a small tube guitar amp.

Is that the same Molasses Creek from Ocracoke that placed in the Prairie Home Companion towns under 2000 talent show ?

Greg H.
Jul-14-2004, 10:11am
All right, another 'Rattlesnake' man. There seem to be a fair number of us around NC. They're great mandolins (particularly for the price).

Jul-14-2004, 12:29pm
I'm sorry but I ve not heard of rattlesnake. Do they have a web site?

Greg H.
Jul-14-2004, 1:15pm
Yes, Rattlesnake mandolins are built by Olin Davis in South Carolina. You can find them here: Rattlesnake Mandolins (http://www.rattlesnakemandolins.com/) or I believe Tony Williamson still has a used one for sale at Mandolin Central (http://www.mandolincentral.com) in Siler City. There's also one in the eye candy here.

Yep, Molasses Creek from Ocracoke. The guitar player and I were in college together during the last ice age and have kept in touch over the years. I play a dozen or so gigs a year with them and sat in on their last cd "Deep Water". Its a fun group to pick with.

Hey gh-mando, I live in the big city of Franklinville! Born and raised in Asheboro.

Newblue, Rattlesnakes are UNBELIEVABLE mandolins and they play like a dream! If Olin ever decides to make an A style, I know I'll end up in debt!

I play a Gibson A-9, which I LOVE but boy those 'Snakes are unreal. Crisp, powerful notes and banjo killing volume.

Hey gh_mando, I sat in with Molasses Creek when I was in Ocracoke a couple of years ago and it was fun. #Tell Martin that Jeremy said "Hi" if he still sits in with them at the opryhouse! He and I did a very fun show at the "Jolly Roger" while I was on vacation there after the night I sat in with MC. By the way, I am from Rutherfordton, NC. #In between Asheville and Charlotte.

I'll raise my hand for Asheboro too. I live about 10 minutes from the zoo.

I'm a beginner on mando, only been playing 7 months (long-time guitar player)

I have a 1923 Gibson A2-Z which I'm not worthy of now but hope to be someday. A2-Z (http://www.mandolinarchive.com/perl/show_mando.pl?2797)
