I'll be getting back to the states around the first week in November. I know that's not exactly prime time to have a festival-- will anything be happening then? I'm going to be in NZ and Australia, maybe pacific islands and Hawaii on the way home, if there's anything going on there in late October.
I have a lot of flexibility in my travelling, so I could hit a festival just about anywhere. Just so long as it isn't fifty below and windy!

If you're planning to go to Australia, you could always check to see if Steve Gilchrist's going to be home & look in on him - just a suggestion,

Queensland, Australia - Imbil Acoustic Music Weekend Friday 31st Oct - Sunday 2nd Nov.
Imbil is a tiny place about 2 hours drive north of Brisbane. Many styles of music are covered, especially folk and bluegrass. You would probably have to arrange for camping equipment or maybe hire a campervan.
This site gives other details of folk action around Brisbane - http://users.tpg.com.au/folkrag/folk_rag_frameset.htm
Check the "calender and date claims" at the left of the page.

Cool, thanks CC!
I was planning on driving right by there, about a week before that date. I might be able to juggle things around and go to that. Probably a great way to meet a bunch of Ozzie pickers. Must be a lot of mandolin players there, cause they're always saying "G'dae"! :mandosmiley:

Hope to see you there Man Dough! Let me know if you need any more information and I'll see what I can find. I don't really know many musos outside of the folk scene. What genre is your main interest?

"cause they're always saying "G'dae"! "
Well done! That went straight over my head first time round LOL
I knew there was something else I'd read about - Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass festival - 24,25,26 October. Dorrigo is central NSW coast inland from Coffs Harbour. I know nothing about the festival or the town but have seen and enjoyed some of the performers, particularly Pirate Brides.

Possibly too early for you, but there is also a multicultural event in Brisbane on 12th October. The big name performer will be Harry Manx.

Had a good laugh from Pirate Brides at a festival last year. During the sound checks one of the guys said "there's too much bottom on stage" just as Rose, the accordian player came on stage. "I hope you're not referring to me!' she said. She then strapped her accordian on and asked "does this make my bum look big?"

I'm into just about everything, from Jazz to Bluegrass to old timey stuff. I won't have a mando with me, though, unless I pick one up in Christchurch or Oz. :mandosmiley:

Mine is a cheapy Epiphone, but if we run into each other at Imbil you're welcome to use it.
