I insulated my truck tool box to carry my gear. It will hold and protect two mandolins, guitar, fiddle and the banjo. We just got back from camping and the thing worked great. Nothing got over heated and my son got to ride in the truck cab. Without the tool box someone would have to move out to make room for the instruments.

I used a 24" x 25' Reflectix insulation from Home Depot. Cut it to fit and glued in with Silicon sealant. The out side get hot but the inside stays cool. The insulation reflects 97% of the heat.

Doug:
Did you line the entire inside of the box? This looks like a really good idea. I'm thinking about trying it using a large styrofoam cooler fro just one mando case.

I did the whole inside. I had to cut to fit in several places. Top, bottom, and end are one piece for each but I had to split the front and back to allow for the seams of the box I had. There's about a 1/2 inch gap where the seams are. I used a hot glue gun to hold it in place while the silicon hardened. The Refletix rates itself from R6 - R19 depending on the type of application in which it is used.
