I guess I shouldn't be worried, it all happens to us from time to time...

....there are times when I noodle around with a song and BAM, I walk into a song.

This happened just last night. I've been playing the mandocello for a little over 2 weeks and I was noodling around with a capo on the 4th fret. The next thing I know I'm playing Solsbury Hill..... on the mandocello!!! :disbelief:

I know I shouldn't complain but that song came right out of thin air.

Oh well enough venting....... :mandosmiley:

That happens to me all the time. I think it's a good thing.

I end up having songs go from my brain to my fingers all the time, I'm just so dang old, it takes me forever to figure out the name of the song I'm playing. With the thousands of melodies stored in my "little grey matter" and the relatively few music notes, it isn't surprising I bump in to some of these melodies on a regular basis.

Recently I've been stumbling into melody lines to tunes in other keys than the one's in which I normally play the song - it's kind've neat actually.

I ended up in St Anne's reel the other day. If I'm doing scales and playing with intervals, I commonly end up in God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen. Weird huh?

I was working on a Robert Earl Keen song earlier this summer, and the next thing I knew, I was playing "Walk, Don't Run" by The Ventures. The spirit of surf rose in my fingers, and it sounded like Dick Dale on the mando. Now I've got my guitar-strumming neighbor playing along, and it's gone beyond a serendipitous discovery. We play it every time we jam together.
