I'm looking for a mini disc recorder that I could plug a mic into so I could record live concerts, and some of my fiddling. #can anyone recommend one? #I really don't know much about them. #Thanks http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

my observation; Its SONY's game, pretty much.
Additionaly they, also, make a decent ,small, singlepoint stereo Mic. not commonly included.
I have an even smaller stereo mic that came with my cassette recorder [wm-d3], that has reasonable sound, and a patch cord allows off the soundboard taping too.

MDs are great...but now days many are set up for the NET
and do not have mic imputs. #There are two good sources
for info.

www.minidisc.org - a portal for everything minidisc

amd

www.minidisco.com - the online store for minidisc - they
specifically list all minidiscs that do not have mic imput.

check www.core-sound.com - they make good mics for
recording in a concert situation..and they are inexpensive

Have fun

What Jeff said. Also, look for Sharp MD recorders. They've been more mic input friendly, but check the specs for inputs before you buy! I have an MD-MT190W and it's been find for just the sort of thing you're doing. Got it through minidisco.com. Watch out for transferring to your PC/Mac/Linux machine, though. MDs are strictly limited to analog output, so you'll transfer files in real audio playback time.
