Hi yall, I'd really like to serenade my sweetheart on our 4 year anniversary with a song on the mandolin. Singing or an intrumental will be just fine. Any suggestions? I am still a beginner but I have a few months before the anniversary. Thanks in advance!

I would be remiss if I didn't suggest this tab:

A Place in the Heart Tab (http://www.mandolincafe.com/tab/placeintheheart.txt)

of this MP3:

A Place in the Heart MP3 (http://www.mandolincafe.net/mp3/placeintheheart.mp3)

None finer.

Love me Tender

some tricky chord work, but such a beautiful song.

here's a simple song ... a little hoakie, perhaps, but if you play it like you mean it, it'll work out fine. it'll be easier to learn if you play along with this guitarist:

... don't forget the flowers.

One that I like is Before I Met You, which was recorded by Flatt & Scruggs and others.

Here's a YouTube clip of Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton singing it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65o9GC_hOLE)

If that's a little too mellow for your relationship, you can always try this one...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKzNZDXfm0Q

Probably better off that way. It was "thrash" music -- meant as a joke. Lot of screaming.

Thats a mellow pleasant little ditty with clear articulate vocals compared to what my roomate in college listened to...

"A Kiss to Build a Dream On" (love Louis Armstrong's version) is one of my favorites...based on a quick google search it's all G and D, and you could probably work out a cool rhythmic semi-chop while you sing...a couple of sites also have the melody tabbed out for guitar; with a little work you could figure it out for a little instrumental solo interlude...

If that doesn't work there's always "Talk Dirty to Me" by Poison :) (Couldn't help it, and I managed to avoid a Banks of the Ohio reference, didn't I? Oh, wait a minute...)

Congrats on the first 4 years! My wife and I just celebrated our 12th...I play in front of her all the time, but have never really been able to find just the right song for a serenade...there are millions to choose from, I know, but it's hard to find the right one to convey what you're feeling--at least with my limited skills...

UnityGrain... My heart goes out to you, but let's not hijack this thread. If I was seriously looking to serenade someone I might try something classical. Anyone from the classical forum have a suggestion of a relatively easy piece to woo a beautiful woman? How about Fur Elise?

More Love by Tim O'Brien. It's on his instructional DVD.

Thanks everyone, I got some real good suggestions from you all!! My biggest problem with some of them is where to find tablature, this is the only way I can play a song right now. Thanks to those who took me seriously with your replies!!
