I'm sure that the MK in the classified is as represented. I have been saving for a Legacy Delux for $699. How does the Legacy f compare to the delux?

compare the types of wood. Believe the legacy F was laminate back and sides and the deluxe is solid woods.

My mandolin fund is targeted toward that same model for the same price as you show. It looks like a good mando for the price and from what I have read from the posts here, everyone seems to like their MK's.

Why not save another 100 and get the Dragonfly?
The Legacy FS does not have the radiused fretboard or flamed back, and the Legacy Deluxe does. The Legacy Classic has flamed back and sides, radiused fretboard, and block inlays. I just received my Dragon fly Flame in walnut w/ an Allen tailpiece, and Fishman system, and am very pleased. Go for as much mando as you can! The extra 50 or 100 really is worth it!

I prefer the classic Gibson look of the Legacy to the intricate inlays on the Dragonfly. So to me I dont see spending the extra $100.

hey steve in tampa-
i'd be very interested in knowing how you like the pickup system in your mando. i've been trying to find out about them for awhile now. are you using it with a band? what kind of amplification, etc? i would appreciate any info.
thanks, john
Steve in tampa,
I would be interested as well. I just bought a Legacy O (and enjoy it) and am curious about how the Fishman works on it...

Hey all,
I'm the seller of the MK Legacy F. Here's the story on it. I bought it a couple of years ago from the MK website, back when they had free shipping and all. I ordered the "bottom of the line" F model, which was the Legacy F (solid top, laminate sides and back, plain jane sunburst). They were out of that particular model, so they emailed me and asked if I wanted the next model up, which I was told was all the same, except flamed. I said sure, and they sent it for the same price as the original one ordered. When I got it, I never paid much attention, but one of my buddys looked at it, and said he thought the back was solid, because you can see the flamed markings by looking through the f-holes. So to make the story short, I really am not sure which MK model I actually have. The scroll is not "carved", and it had all the cheap hardware that was on them back then. I added the Allen tailpiece.
Hope this sheds some light, and it really does sound good, but not as good as my new Absaroka. Ha ha. It's a really great starter mandolin I would say.
Thanks, and y'all have a great day,

bauerhaus,
Your MK looks like a great deal, and the flame back is nice. I have to wait a while but I know someone will jump all over this deal. You can't beat it for $300. I'll probably regret passing it up.

I have a classic and a friend just got a dragonfly. Though the 'fly looks great, when playing it, I have a hard time finding the fret markers for all that inlay http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Be aware that some deluxe models don't come with a radiused fretboard. Some do, some dont.

Howdy Mandorose and bjc!
To answer a few questions, I just got this MK, and have not had time to fully experiment with the electronics.I play out on occasion at open jams, and sit in on friend's gigs, usually folk/beach bar type stuff, and attend bluegrass and folk festivals, and jam there with anybody and everybody.
The MK has a Fishman 1 system that I understand was designed for and by Fishman and MK. I use a Roland K300 keyboard amp because it has a very clean, unedited sound.
The MK straight through sounds good, but with a hum (might be my electric here), and the sound is best with the bass and treble EQ turned all the way down. I tried it briefly through a Roland Stereo Chorus in the music store set to whatever the last guy had it set to when I picked it up, and it sounded like ####. (I do not like guitar amps for anything but electric guitars).
When I play out, I use an Aphex Acoustic Exciter, and sometimes a chorus with that. Been using that rig w/ an Ovation MM68, so I will have to re-dial everything to suit the MK. Wish it had the OP24 like the Ovation. As I get more time to play with it, I will add to these thoughts.
