As this is my first post, Hello to all.
I'm 40 somthing and have just got this thing that I want to learn how to play a mandolin ( I dont/cant play anything yet )

As to my question, I have found a electro / accustic mandolin made my Stagg its band new and comes with a hard case. the total is 130 euro ( almost the same as us$ ) delivered .

I dont have a lot to spend but, would rather wait and save up some more if you all think this is junk.

Thank you all for your time.

Hi Bret,

Any specific reason why you want an electro/accoustic as opposed to a regular accoustic mandolin?

No big reason, just my kids ( 15 year old twin girls ) both play in a small rock band. They said the electro/accoustic was better. As I know nothing on this subject any sujestions will be great.

Thanks for yor time

I would be tempted to go visit an accoustic music shop and listen to regular accoustic mandolins... Unless you want to play in your daughters' band, I reckon you will get a better mandolin for your money if you go with a regular one rather than an electric one.

Good Luck!

I think Stagg is made in the Samick factory (this means avoid it) I could be wrong but you could probably get a Kentucky for that price maybe a little over and I know those are good.

Looking at the price on the site I am wrong but you would still be better off with a Kentucky which you could get a Musician's Friend case for $30 USD and an M-380 (top of the line model great price for the mando) for about $300 on Elderly or Musician's Friend (I know elderly for sure but I am not positive about Musican's friend) my suggestion is that there is absolutly no reason to get an electric unless you are preforming and a Stagg is not a mando I would be caught dead with.

Thank you all for your information. I have put the idea of getting a electro/accoustic in the trash and now I'm only looking at accoustic.
Hope you all don't mind, but will probley ask a few more questions before I spend my money

Thanks for your time

Too bad The Stagg name is taken; that would be a great name for a luthier-made brand.
