Dear friends,
although this project is not quite near hatching yet, I thought I'd let you all know in advance. My (minuscule, and non-commercial) GrecoMando Editions is working on our 2008 volume, which will be titled Echoes of Magna Graecia, and will be issued later on this fall.
The Greek presence in Lower Italy and Sicily goes back some 2,500 years; to this day, there are villages where the old grechesco dialect is still spoken, a wonderful, Latin-inflected, VERY ancient Greek. Most importantly (for me, at least) there is the wonderful music of those villages: at times cheerful, at times soulful, ALWAYS delightful.
This volume, therefore, will be an anthology of songs and dances from that culturally rich part of the world. As usual, I will send a group e-mail to all the Usual Suspects ;) and, if you are not among them and wish to receive notice, please feel free to contact me at vkioulaphides@earthlink.net and I will be all too happy to put you on the list. (Same deal as always: $10-inflation-be-damned + shipping, spiral binding, ivory paper, perusal copies gladly sent, returns accepted, no questions asked, etc.)
Also as always, the instrumentation will be for mandolin and guitar, although of course it would be perfectly "in style" to incorporate other instruments, e.g. accordeon, mandolas, zampogna, at will.
