I've viewed a few clips of Chris Thile playing Bach and am excited over the idea of a potential album of him and Edgar Meyer with other special guests, covering J.S. Bach. Where are the mandolin pop-per-rot-zi on this? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

When I spoke with him at a Punch Brothers concert he said it would be a few years off. He said that it is all in his fingers to play it, but he wants to have a few more years of maturity to more fully understand the music. Great to know that it is in the works though. I wonder if it will be anything like Bela Fleck's "Pepetual Motion" CD that he did with Edgar Meyer.

Thile and Meyer are releasing a CD in September. It's not just Bach though...

Personally, I'd rather another Punch Brothers release or even another All who Wander... I really enjoyed the Meyer-Thile concert I attended a few years ago. Oddly, as a tremendous fan of "classical" music, the Bach on their program, while not remotely low, was the low point of the concert for me personally. While the sequence of notes was technically accurate and impressive, the approach to tempi and rhythm was just a little too squarely straightforward for my taste in that type of music. I'm also not a fan of excerpting bits of classical works; rather than one movement of this work here and that work there, I'd rather one whole multi-movement work make an appearance somewhere occasionally. My personal opinion should in no way be considered an affront to yours if it differs, of course. Carry on.

It looks like is is no Bach at all: "12 original songs."

Ah sorry, the actual CD has no Bach, however the accompanying DVD seems to have some snippets.

In my view, that speaks volumes about Thile's humility. #He is obviously more than capable, techincally, of playing this music, but he wants to wait and do it right. #I can't imagine what he's waiting for, since I've seen him/heard him play Bach beautifully, but I'll trust his gut on the matter. #Thile's a class act, in my opinion. #I only wish his upcoming tour was coming through my neck o' the woods. Seems like most of the bands/acts I want to see never make their way to DFW.

Actually they will be at the house of blues. At least the punch bros will.

Agreed.
