I've used Behlen violin varnish French polished with shellac on my mandolin. How long does it need to cure before I string it up.

Shellac dries a lot quicker than oil but I would still wait at least 2 weeks and then be very cafeful with it. Putting it out in the early morning sun will speed things up a lot.

Mike, I'd like to hear how it works out for you.
Ive been told to stay away from Behlens, but I got a bottle once and did a test board with it and I thought it worked very well. The bottle I bought was in a clearance bin at a paint store, and I was worried about it's age, but it seemed fine.
