I'm priveledged to live about 20 minutes from a new luthier. I've played his "F model" prototypes, and absolutely loved them. So much in fact that I bought one! You can get them at www.themandolinstore.com. I put it up aginst a fleet of collings mandolins, and it was louder, dryer, and just plain more full of tone that mandolins costing literally 10s of thousands more. I know that this seems like another plug, but hear it for yourself on The Mandolin Store's website. I'm not endorseing them at all or anything like that, I just love the way they sound, and I'll bet you do too.

I will second all of the things adam wrote there. I have been playing jasons mandolins for quite awhile, and have had a chance to compare them to some great mandolins gibson, gilchrist, collings, heiden, etc. the copperhead is as good or better than all of them.
anyone looking for a great varnished f built in true old world style owes it to themselves to check them out

I am a little confused. Is this the same Jason Harshbarger of Highland Strings (http://www.highlandstrings.com)? Is there a reason he changed the name of his company? I am just curious...
Oh, never mind... I see that his overall business is Highland Strings but this model is called the Copperhead. Sounds pretty good from the mp3.

Having spent my life watching out for "copperheads" (snakes), I don't think I could hold a Copperhead mandolin! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Too bad, sound like they're gooduns.

We have an exclusive arrangement with Jason to sell the Copperhead mandolin. Jason is a one man show and has limited production capabilities. We have 2 more due in September and will likely have 2 more before year end. We have made a few upgrades to them. These are: Schaller tuners, Allen tailpiece, fiberglass case. One of these will have gold appts. and the other will have satin nickel.

I have the privilege of owning the prototype Copperhead. I had to twist Dennis' arm to get him to sell it. It had been repaired (by Jason Harshbarger himself) and Dennis wanted to keep it and wanted to make sure I was willing to have a repaired mandolin. Never had to convince anyone to sell me something before, but from about the third chord I heard played on it I knew it was as deep and woody as the 1919 Gibson F4 I used to own (and should have hung on to) louder than anything I've played and the neck was perfect. I've had it for a few weeks and it remains the most richly toned mandolin I have laid hands on. I've played it against some high dollar Gibsons in the last couple weeks and a really nice Flatiron F, but nothing compares in tone or ease of play. I'm really picky about necks and this one is perfect from my point of view. Easy to play all the way up--chording and for leads the whole length. Yeah, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I do a lot of trading, but this baby is gonna be my number 1 until I grow old.:)
