I wanted to find what any of you thought of The Sam Bush Mandolin Method on Homespun?

If you get it and study hard you will sound just like Sam Bush. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Seriously though if you like SAM and the tunes he teaches then it's a no brainer.

What's your mando cost 3k/4k/5k plus? What's the DVD set cost...$45

I picked it up a couple of years ago,and have enjoyed it a lot. I have only tried to learn two of the tunes, "Blackberry Blossom" and "Ragtime Annie", but got them both under finger just like Sam,minus the speed. He gives you the tuning for "Get Up John" and I'm thinking of retuning a mando and giving that a try. The little tab booklet is accurate. A good investment in my opinion.

It is outstanding!

He gives a lot of insight into his playing, as well as "Old Hoss", and his instruction is pretty easy...I would rate it intermediate level although he does a lot of advanced licks.

I found it easy to follow along and very challenging. I tackled it after I had gone through all three of Butch Baldassarri's teaching videos.

I was wondering about this video myself, thanks for the input. Also there is a Monroe "how to" video also by HomeSpun (I think), anyone know about that one?

Those videos are fantastic...especially if you are a fan of Sam's playing. The tunes are cool...including a great break down of BRILLIANCY.

The best part for me is getting to watch Sam's right-hand technique. It is simply jaw-dropping! A good reminder that making good music isn't just about putting your fingers in the right places.

Highly recommended!

The BUSH/MONROE video combo is a must have. The Monroe video is an intimate, personal interview with John Hartford where he talks about his mandolin, life, The Bluegrass Boys and plays many of his classics. The accompaning video with Sam Bush breaks down each song as Sam learned it. It includes tab with it.

If for nothing more, you need to get both from a historical standpoint.
