I have been listening to a CD made from BluegrassBox.Com called John Hartford Tribute recorded February 7, 2003. It is an excellant CD and well worth the time. Anyway, there is a song (number 5) titled "Try Me One More Time". It is a neat little ditty and I was trying to find the lyrics to it and found that the only song that I could find by searching around the net by John Hartford was "Man of Constant Sorrow". Then I looked around on several lyrics sites and found nothing by John Hartford. Is this a conspiracy or did John just not let his lyrics out? Or were they his to begin with? Anyone have any links for John's work?

(I got bored at work and wrote them down) http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Will share. No notes, just words...Can't read notes anyway...

That song was originally from John Hartford / Down on the river released in 1989
the song is called "Bring your clothes back home"
here are the lyrics:

Momma killed a rooster she thought it was a duck
she put it on the table with it's legs pokin' up
Oh babe about to loose my mind
bring your clothes back home try me one more time

Now you know about kissin and lovin all down
your the dreamiest gal I've ever been around
Oh babe about to loose my mind
bring your clothes back home try me one more time

you were comin' down the stair goin' oop shoop a doobie
I was sitting there ewatchin that flip flopped a flooby
Oh babe about to loose my mind
bring your clothes back home try me one more time

By a neat coincidence, the original John Hartford version of "Bring Your Clothes Back Home" is available as a free download from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000059PM5/qid=1089191717/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/002-1275000-4281635?v=glance), so there's no need to chase up that CD to hear the song (in fact, there are enough John Hartford tracks on Amazon downloads to make a very nice legal full-length free CD).

Also, "Try Me One More Time" is the title of an Ernest Tubb song, so maybe that's where the confusion comes from.

The Tubb song is:

Yes, I know I've been untrue
And I have hurt you through and through
But please have mercy on this heart of mine
Won't you take me back and try me one more time

In my dreams I see your face
It seems like there's someone in my place
But does he know that you were once mine
Won't you take me back and try me one more time

If you come back to me now
I'll make it up to you somehow
I promise to never be unkind I
If you'll take me back and try me one more time
Won't you take me back and try me one more time
