So here it is, I'm considering a guitar purchase but want it to be a good companion instrument to my Vega Bowl back. I don't know how to describe the Vegas sound but wonder how to pick a guitar to go with it. Would you want something of similar tone, bright and clear in the treble or would you want something woodier to fill in the blanks so to say? Thanks all John

well i guess it depends on what style you are playing. if you are playing classical mainly then i would get a classical guitar....thats if you are willing to learn how to play the classical guitar. and by that i mean finger picking not flat picking. however if you want to flat pick then i would look around for a vintage guitar. there are a lot of good guitars out there waiting to be found just as in there are a lot of good ol' mando sitting around waiting to be found. if you want it to go along or say enhance your mandolin if they were to be played together then i would try to find one with a good bass side to it. your mando already has the good treble to it so the guitar is goin to fill in on the other side of the spectrum.

I didn't know classical guitar was finger picked. You could do that with any guitar though, couldn't you. I am thinking mainly of classical, Mediterranean, or Celtic styles. I do like country so I need a balanced instrument. I'll go to my nephews music store and have him play some side by side with my Vega. When one sounds good I guess thats it. Hey maybe I should consider a Bouzoukis or an Octave Mandolin instead. Thanks John
