I may finally be in the market to pick up an f-hole mando (I've had oval holes for many years...), I am beginning to like the chop and bark I hear from those mandolins. I wonder what is a good price range for a used Gibson F9? (Heck, what do they cost new on basic discount?)
Thanks for any info.

Several have been in the classifieds lately.
Try searching f9 and f-9 I pulled up three. $2249, $2350, $2500.
$2500 will buy a really nice A-style w/ f holes if you can live without the scroll. But that wasn't your question http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
First Quality Music (cafe sponsor) NFI - has one for about $3K HERE (http://www.firstqualitymusic.com/itemdetail.asp?item=BGF9VBNH1&catid={707F1761-49B7-42F0-9AB6-7CB5DD65B34C})

I would not give no more than 2k for one because the closer you get to 3k theres the f5g then 4k the f5l and so on and so forth.

I've seen them as low as $1800ish, I think.... However, I think my MT could stand up to an F9 and it;s cheaper. (not that I still dont have scroll envy,....)

Bought a 2003 f-9 in March for just under $2k. Showed up with the little headstock scroll snapped off, though http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
It's a nice mandolin.
The new ones seem to be going for 3k...I love the looks of the newer (sunburst) models.

For those that can't answer the OP's question but want to chime in please take a look at this (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=13;t=52414;hl=f9) thread and read Allen Hopkins message about ham sandwiches.

A buddy of mine has an F-9, and he likes it pretty well. It sounds good, and I was with him when he bought it new at Guitar Center a few years ago. I think he paid $1800 for it.
