seller says 24, I didn't think they put the decal on back then, or for that matter make a sunburst. Please correct me, or assure me .

I believe the decal on the headstock was introduced in the early 1930's and doubt that there were any sunbursts until some time after that.

Gruhn says "mid 1932".

I don't know when Martin started bursts, but I've seen a shaded 12fret D-28, so that means they must have started them before 1934 because that's the year the 14 fret neck was introduced in dreadnaughts.

Mike Longworth's book states that a "shaded top on regular order" for a Martin mandolin first appeared in 1937, but the "regular order" statement suggests that special orders with shaded tops may have come earlier.
