tuner upgrade for Morgan Monroe

This is my first time on this forum. Real glad to find you folks!!! I have a friend looking to upgrade the tuning machines on a Morgan Monroe MMS-3. The instrument has the worm gear ABOVE the wheel gear with 14:1 ratio...hes' trying to locate suitable replacement (same gear set-up) but in a 16:1 ratio. Any idea where these could be located? Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated!

What does the ratio difference do on the tuner? I am also looking for new tuner for the same Mandolin. Thanks!

Grover (http://www.grotro.com/Mainclassicandmandolin.htm) has some excellent mandolin tuners, with an 18:1 ratio.
