Removing glue spots from finish

I recently took the pick guard off my Morgan Monroe and found two minuet drops of what appears to be glue on the body surface. There is also a bit right under the neck extension but out towards the scroll that has been attempted to be removed. Should I even mess with this or will I cause a bigger problem. A lot depends on what your finish is and what the glue or whatever is.
It could be something on the surface that could pop off, or it could be something bonded with the finish that would require sanding and buffing if removed.
