Looking for covers with mandolin such as the above by the Gourds. Suggestions?

By covers, I assume you don't mean covers of traditional BG tunes, but covers from other non-mando genres.

The Meat Purveyors (now defunct) have a number of covers on their albums and the mandolin player (Peter Stiles) is quite good IMO.

All of their albums are good and they are (were) a really fun band to see live.

Some examples:

from the album: Sweet in the Pants
The Bottle Let Me Down - Merle Haggard
I'll Be There - Ray Price
Burnin' Love - Made famous by Elvis, written by Dennis Linde

From the album: Pain by Numbers
Monday Morning - Lindsey Buckingham - Fleetwood Mac
It Won't Be Long (and I'll be hating you) - Johnny Paycheck et al
Daydreams about Night Things - Ronnie Milsap, written by Schweers

From the album: More Songs about Buildings and Cows
What Goes On - Lou Reed
Whatcha Gonna Do - performed by George Jones, written by J. Newman

From the album: All Relationships are Doomed to Fail
S.O.S. - ABBA
Round and Round - Ratt
Without Love - Nick Lowe

from last album: Someday Soon Things Will Be Much Worse!
Hot Blooded - Foreigner
Don't You Want me Baby - The Human League

They also do a Madonna Trilogy, including Burnin' Up, Lucky Star, and Like a Virgin.

Of course, they also cover a number of traditional and Bill Monroe tunes, but that's not what you intended I suspect.

There are 5 cover tunes on my album On Fire & Ready! (http://www.elderly.com/recordings/items/MANDOCRUCIAN03.htm), all of which have no guitar....the mandolin takes over all the rhythm guitar functions (as well as lead).

The covers (with the instrument lineups) are:

"Summertime Blues" #(Eddie Cochran)
"Honky Tonk Blues" #(Hank Williams......ala Cooder)
Mandolin & vocal (Niles H), harmonica (Phil Wiggins), drums (Thomas Mayoral), upright bass (Ralph Gordon)

"Fire" #(Hendrix)
Mandolin & vocal (Niles H), harmonica (Phil Wiggins), drums & flute (Thomas Mayoral), upright bass (Ralph Gordon), backing vocals (Gaye Adegbalola, Debbie H)

"I'm Ready" #(Muddy Waters)
Mandolin & vocal (Niles H), harmonica (Phil Wiggins), drums & flute (Thomas Mayoral), upright bass (Ralph Gordon), piano (Ann Rabson)

"Low Down Blues" # (Hank Williams......ala New Orleans R&B)
Vocal (Gaye Adegbalola), Mandolin (Niles H), harmonica (Phil Wiggins), drums (Thomas Mayoral), upright bass (Ralph Gordon), piano (Ann Rabson)

There is nothing remotely "bluegrass" about any of these tracks; it's pure rock/blues, as far as I'm concerned. #

For a (video) sampling of a couple of these tunes YouTube: Niles Hokkanen circa 1991 "Honkytonk Blues/Summertime Blues" solo mandolin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlGi4mpswd0)

(I should add that there are also some tracks on the CD which do have guitar, played by notables such as Richard Thompson, Martin Simpson and Erik Hokkanen. This album was released back in 1993, btw, which demonstrates just how long I've been doing this type of material).
