..the couple of F models I played at SPBGMA last Feb. were good..sounded tight...probably from being fairly new...He had an A model that would peel paint...the F's werent quite as bassy, woody and dry as I desire but they are good mandos....Id say they are more in the Gibson sound quality dept...which is a good thing. The fit and finish are second to none. Sim used to work for Gibson so the man knows what he is doing....I would recommend his mandos to anybody.

I've got a Daley F-5 standard model. #Its got a great low end and great overall volume and tone. #Really a great sounding mandolin. #Its also got a nice finish. #I'll try to post a pic below.

I've recorded a little with it. #Here are a couple of links to some short audio clips recorded with the Daley:

John-

Nice job! Wish I could play like that. You are getting some sweet tones out of that Mandolin.

John,

What's the name of track 13?

I've heard this mandolin up close and have heard it mic'd and would have to say it is a great looking and sounding mandolin. Sim is a super guy and knows what he is doing.
John also is a great guy. How many folks you know would go out of there way to get a Compton workshop together for his mandolin friends? John would.

Butch was playing a beautiful Daley at Kaufman Kamp last week. #I played it a little on two different occasions, but I can't say that I "put it through its paces"!

it sounded great and was a beautiful mandolin.

Oh I almost forgot, BUTCH put it through its paces! #Well, he played some beautiful pieces and it sounded wonderful. #Here are a couple pics...sorry for the blur...

The other. (If anyone can offer simple advice on how to keep my pictures bigger, but decrease the resolution enough to fit attach it to a reply, WHILE keeping enough clarity in the image - I'd appreciate it!)

Sim was working on the mando for Butch when I picked mine up in late December. He was also doing some work on Butch's old Fern.

Just to ditto the others - Sim knows his stuff. He worked at Gibson for a number of years before going into business for himself. Sim does repair and setup work on banjos, mandolins, and guitars and builds his own mandolins and guitars. His website is www.simdaley.com.

Kevin - good to hear from you. Track 13 is one I came up with when I started mixing up a couple of Monroe instrumentals - Southern Flavor and Jerusalem Ridge. Its had several differnt titles but mostly recently we're calling it Ain't No Part of Nothin' because I figure if Monroe heard it that's what he'd say - that ain't no part of nothin' boy! I believe Randy Howard recorded a tune called Ain't No Part of Nothin' but I didn't know that until after we started calling it that!
