View Full Version : Surgery on left hand today
Just got back from having surgery on my left hand -- last joint on the long finger. #Right now there is substantial local anesthetic in my hand so my other fingers don't move right. #As soon as that wears off I'll try playing my mando with the other fingers (I'll have a splint on the long finger for 6 weeks, so that one is out of commission for a while). #Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? #My daughter (a guitar player) had a broken left thumb a few years ago, and she still played her guitar (to some degree) while her thumb was in a splint.

I just had trigger finger surgery on my left hand back at the end of march. I still have some mild swelling in my palm (where an inch long incision was made) and some moderate stiffness in my middle finger. However, I started playing again after three weeks and, as the weeks go by, I do feel like I'm getting my full use back.
Hang in there, but don't push it or do too much too soon.

Good luck and heal well and quickly. Perhaps now would be a good time to take up slide and resophonic mando.

A month ago, pitching batting practice to my 12 year old son, he drilled a line drive. I flinched enough to get my glove up to protect my face--but not turned to catch the ball. It hit myleft hand index finger straight on ( the one finger outside my glove. Hurt like the bejeezus, too. Split the bone rom the first to the middle knucle right down the middle. Anyway, after almost 2 weeks in a splintit finally dawned on me to go to a hand specialist. After more x rays and CT scan I find I don't have to have it pinned but intensive physical therapy is in process. Its starting to bend but I still can't make a C chord on the guitar so I seriously wonder if I'm going to be able to play mando. The irony is: I had come home that day with a catchers mask because I was afraid of catching a fastball in the face. Now,I am in the market for a lap steel. But a word of advice to anybody who breaks a finger-CONSULT A SPECIALIST IMMEDIATELY

I had surgery for trigger finger on my left hand ring finger & thumb about 8 years back. It took about 3 months to get back to full use without any pain, but it sure as heck was worth it. Just take it easy Jean,DONīT do anything to cause a need for further surgery,itīs not something that you want done again in a hurry,

Excellent advice. #I tried playing Angeline the Baker last night and realized that even though I was avoiding the affected finger, the pull from the others impacted the splinted one. #Even though it's hard, I'll wait.
