I'm a beginner, and am going to be traveling alot on business so I can't set up a regular lesson schedule. So, I guess I'm going to try and learn the mandolin on my own.

I just rec'd the 2 DVD set on bluegrass mandolin by Bucth Baldassari. This looks like a good one to get started with, and I can take these along with me, my laptop, and my mandolin on business trips, and pass the hours away in the hotel room.

Do you guys have any other suggestions for this type of instructional material?

I have been playing mando now for 2 years. #I have the Chris Thile Video BertCaseys Mandolin Primer & Jack Tottles book #Imho for a beginner Bert Casey is the best of the 3 #Thile and Tottle are just to advanced to start with #I like Casey because he has 3 different speeds and you can go art your own pace. # good luck and happy pickin http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I really like Roland White's book and CDs (http://www.rolandwhite.com/bluegrassmandolin.htm)
Great stuff- slow and faster versions, lots of double stops to fill out your sound.

Usual disclaimer of no financial interest etc.

enjoy,
