Wanted to get the word out on this. I'm bringing these guys to Lawrence on Thursday, July 22 for a small concert and possibly a mandolin workshop. Helping them put together some dates in these cities but we just got this rolling yesterday so it's all coming together: likely stops in Wichita, Minneapolis, possibly Chicago and Madison, WI. Fairly short notice but they both had an opening and haven't had a chance to tour for a few months and were itching to get out on the road. We're itching for a chance to get that heavy dose of Monroe-like right hand they can both deliver and hear the new material since their last appearance here at Mandofest 2003. I'll get the word out on what's going on where but if you're looking for a high quality small traditional based workshop, this would be the ticket. FYI - David Long tells me he just got asked and has accepted a position as a teaching assistant at the Mandolin Symposium in August.

Hope to be able to update this later today. Appears they have secured something in Minneapolis. A workshop and concert are definitely on here in Lawrence and I'm putting that together. Once there's enough info I'll link something from the Cafe main page. Having two mandolin players of this caliber touring around the midwest is a rare opportunity for those in this part of the woods.

Hey Scott,

Do you know what it's going to take to get those two to Chicago? Are they trying to book a venue in Chicago or they still deciding whether to come or not? Let me know if I can help.

John, I don't know the answer to the Chicago possibility yet. David was going to talk to Stiernberg and see if he had any ideas about a venue for traditional mandolin music. The Minneapolis thing appears to have good possibilities and of course even though I haven't achieved much here it's definitely on. I'll keep you posted. If you know of anything, feel free to contact me.

Possibly an appearance in Wichita Falls, TX at Brian Hull's Acoustic Art Productions. He's doing good biz for the mandolin community and helps out with Mandofest. His web site (http://www.acousticartproductions.com/) should get your attention. Do we have anyone in that general vicinity out here?

Hi Scott,

Believe it or not, David Long called me out of the blue to ask about venues and such in the area. He had no idea I asked you about it, he just decided to do a few cold calls and see where they led. When I told him I had messaged you about it just a couple days earlier, he was awed by the shared cosmic mando consciousness #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif #LOL! #Small world. Looks like they are going to do Madison, WI, but won't have time for Chicago. Things are still tentative though.

Go see them if they are anywhere near you. Great players and also do a great workshop.

I had them in my shop this past winter and if they get anywhere near Oregon again, I'm having them in again. Great show and both have a great sense of humor and quite willing to show you anything. Ask Compton to play some fiddle for you too. He's pretty good!.
By the way Pete, I have Compton and Grier coming in October to do a show. I need a venue for them in Seattle. Got one? Kenc

Quite a bit of progress made today. David and I spoke several times, made a lot of calls, emails, etc., and we'll have some definite stuff here in a day or two to announce. This is definitely a tour of love. Right now it's looking like this but no firm promise (but looking good) other than here and Minneapolis:

Tuesday, July 20 - Wichita Falls, TX
Wednesday, July 21 - Wichita, KS
Thursday, July 22 - Lawrence, KS (concert + workshop)
Friday, July 23 - Minneapolis (concert + workshop)
Saturday, July 24 - N/A

I just received word that David Long and Mike Compton will be appearing in Memphis on Monday, July 19th at 9:00 pm at the Hi Tone Cafe in Midtown Memphis. The Hi Tone is at 1913 Poplar Avenue. All you Monroe style mandomanics come on out! No financial interest.

Hi there.

I've posted some updates on my site as well. >> bigevemusic.com (http://www.bigevemusic.com)
I'm also trying to nail down a Chicago show for Sunday the 25th. Also, note that the Wichita, KS and Wichita Falls, TX shows have been flip flopped due to scheduling conflicts. I'll keep this thread posted. Thanks.

Improvingly,
David Long

Ksmandocat,

I had to cancel our date in Wichita. #I couldn't come to an agreement on a fair price with the venue owner. #Anyhow, hope you can make to one of the shows. #Also, I appologize for all this being last minute, but it seems like it's coming together. I'm really looking forward to meeting all you folks and talk mandos. #Take care.

We still have some openings for the workshop in Lawrence on July 22. I realize a Thursday during the day isn't convenient for work schedules, etc. We're four hours or less from areas like Des Moines, Lincoln, Omaha, Wichita, Tulsa and easily within driving distances like Oklahoma City, Denver, and places in between. Contact yours truly to get in.
